What's new in Canvas Editor 2.0?

We've upgraded the Canvas editor with more flexibility and smoother workflows. Here's everything you need to know.

Written by Anna Sophie Witte

✨ New features

  • Multi-select layers - Select and manage multiple elements at once - from the canvas or the layer list.

  • Groups in groups - Create nested group structures with no limit on depth, for better organisation across complex layouts.

  • Move & scale - Drag, resize, and adjust multiple elements together in one action.

  • Rotate - Rotate one or several elements at once. Hold Shift while rotating to snap to 15Β° increments.

  • Live editing - Tweak size and position while the ad is playing. Interacting with a selected layer will automatically pause the timeline.

  • Layer names - Graphics and videos layers will now be named the same as the file

Timeline & animation improvements

  • Animations of the same type are grouped on the same line; overlapping ones stack into separate rows.

  • Multi-select animations: Shift + click, or drag over multiple animations.

  • Zoom in/out: Alt/Option + scroll while hovering over the timeline.

  • Horizontal scroll: Shift + scroll.

  • Drag the handles on each side of the bottom scrollbar to adjust zoom level.

  • Animation start, duration, end, and repeat markers all snap to 0.1s intervals.

  • Copying and pasting an animation pastes it at the current playhead position (only when playhead > 0).

πŸ’‘ Quick tip: scaling text

When scaling a text layer, the font size won't adjust automatically. If you need the text to scale visually, use a Bounding box with a larger font size instead.

🎨 New layer menu

The new Layer menu is now available, too. It's an alternative in Studio and the default in the Creative Editor. It's ready to use - explore how it fits your workflow.

Prefer the old timeline view? Switch back anytime under User Settings (top right corner).

⚠️ Important things to be aware of

Layer position is now relative to the format - Layer x/y coordinates are no longer relative to the group they sit inside - they're now relative to the canvas format. This also affects group sizing: rotated child layers are now factored in, so groups may appear larger than before if their contents are rotated.
